Skerries Welcomes back the FBD Ras for 2010!

Stephen Halpin, compedititor in the 2010 FBD Ras international cycle race meets with the Skerries Miss FBD Ras, Eve Reddin, to celebrate the return of the final Stage end to the seaside town for the fifth year running on Sunday the 30th of May.

"The whole town will be buzzing, there will be a street party, fairground stalls and loads of things happening to keep everybody occupied before and between the race laps" said Eve. Stephen is looking forward to the huge support from his friends and neighbours as he completes the gruelling 8 day 1,200 km race in his home town. Events kick off at 1.30pm, the race itself will lap the village and hinterland three times starting at around 2.30pm. Traffic restrictions will be in place during the race

The FBD INSURANCE RÁS will once again play an important role in world cycling when it gets underway from the 23rd to the 30th of May. For the tenth year in a row the big Irish 8 day international cycle race will feature on the world controlling body Union Cycliste Internationale’s prestigious Calendar of International Events. This entitles the race to award much sought after qualifying points for the world cycling championships.

The continued success of this internationally acclaimed event is due in no small measure to the financial backing by FBD Insurance. Now in its 27th year of sponsorship, one of the longest running sports sponsorship in the country, the race has developed into an important player on the world cycling stage. The FBD Insurance RÁS also receives funding from the Irish Sports Council.
