Miss Ras 200815 year old Aisling Cooke from Skerries has been selected to be Miss Rás 2008. She will be up on the podium presenting bouquets to top cyclists from around the world on Sunday 25th May when the FBD Rás comes to Skerries for the third year in a row. After cycling around Ireland for eight days the Rás will whizz through the town twice before pushing through a third time for the finish.
Aisling, a transition year student at Skerries Community College, is not just a pretty face – she entered the Young Scientist of the Year competition with a project about the house sparrow population in Dublin. This year’s Street Party which takes place just before the Rás finish is going to be more exciting than ever and don’t expect to just stand and watch the fun - you will be joining in the activities too! Watch the press and website given below for more details! Last year Aisling helped out with the Rás party by face painting and working at a balloon stall. She hasn’t met too many competitive cyclists but looks forward to seeing them in action on the streets of Skerries and meeting the winners face to face. Aisling and her friends do own bikes but she admits they don’t use them too much at present. Her sporting interests include basketball – she plays for the school league team and water safety. She participates in the annual Skerries Water Safety Week and would like to get summer work as a lifeguard For more information on the street party and stage end street party planned for Skerries on 25th May see the website www.skerriesfbdras.com/festival.html |
